Via social media yesterday, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has revealed that they had completed the maintenance and dredging works of L. Gan-Mukurimagu Harbor 8th March 2021. The company began work on the project on 30th January – forecasting to complete the work within 45 days. Thus, the completion of work on the project by 8th March means they have completed the work 8 days ahead of time.
Work under the project involves access channel maintenance dredging operations of 5,454cbm and harbor basin maintenance dredging operations of 1,938cbm. The project was valued at MVR 89.8 million. '
Prior to the dredging works – there were multiple difficulties arising due to the shallow depth of the harbor for those using it such as large vessels carrying goods being unable to dock at the harbor.
