A Fish Shaped Fish Cutting Station Established at Holhudhoo in Noonu Atoll

‘Aharenge Bank Community Fund’ introduced by Bank of Maldives Plc. (BML) targets to empower local individuals to contribute to their communities by way of sustainable projects. Under the third quarter of the campaign last year, there was a proposal which stood out even for me as it was eerily different compared to the rest; the establishment of a fish cleaning station at the harbor area of Holhudhoo in Noonu Atoll. The proposal was submitted by a football club based on the island, My Choice is Football (MCF).

The newly established fish cutting station can be used at all times simultaneously by 8 people. It is built with adequate space to carry out the work easily and is equipped with clean water taps and consists of a space to store the necessary fish cutting tools. Ironically, the fish cutting station was constructed in the shape of a fish. Prior to its establishment, it was reported that fisherman from the island of Holhudhoo used an old table at the harbor area to carry out the work. The successful establishment of the fish station is envisioned to account for strengthening the fisheries activities in the island.

Several winning proposals of the campaign has successfully implemented their plans as set out in the proposals. Just recently a community picnic area at the island of Veymandoo in Thaa Atoll has been established. We are looking forward to see the successful completion of all other winning projects under the campaign.

Furthermore, there is still chance to submit your innovative and sustainable ideas for the development of your beloved islands during the third phase of the campaign this year. Ten winning proposals will be granted MVR 50,000 to carry out the work needed under the proposal.
