Islanders of Veymadoo in Thaa Atoll Can Now Have A Pleasant Picnic At Their Homeland

The largest local bank operating in the Maldives - Bank of Maldives Plc.- initiated an exemplary nationwide campaign with the aim of empowering local individuals to contribute to their communities by way of sustainable projects under the title ‘Aharenge Bank Community Fund’.

Veymandoo is the capital of Thaa Atoll located at the south of Maldives. One of the winning proposals under the campaign was regarding the establishment of a community picnic area at this island which was drafted by Mr. Fahud Abdul Shukoor. The successful implementation of the proposal was seen today with the opening of the community picnic area for public use. With funding from the Bank, the existing beach area has been majorly transformed with additions of beach umbrellas, huts, a barbeque area, a picnic dining space, a mini football and a volley court as well as dustbins. A 2500-liter water tank is also installed in the area.

The community picnic area was named ‘Faruhilaa Thundi’. Mr. Fahud Abdul Shukoor envisages to accommodate residents from neighboring islands in visiting and using the space in the near future.
We are anticipating to see the successful implementation of all other winning projects under this campaign. If this story has entailed such innovative and sustainable ideas to your head, it is not too late! BML is yet to choose 10 more proposals in the third quarter of the campaign which is scheduled to take place within this year.
