Taking to account the concerning rates at which positive Covid19 cases in the Maldives has been rising in the past few weeks, Maldivian Blood Services have called on potential donors to volunteer and donate blood at the center.
Based on the fact that DH11 ICU at Dharumavantha Hospital is running on full occupancy and patient beds in the Hulhumale covid Facility is filling up fast, MBS forcasts a shortage of blood in the coming days should the situation not change for the good. In order to avoid the worst-case scenario, it is essential to have a packed blood bank to compensate for the estimated rise in demand both in the Male’ area and in the local islands.
Since the initial lockdowns announced in the Maldives in March 2020, MBS has been cautioning the urgent need to donate blood amid fears of running out in a moment of strike against the ongoing global pandemic.
Further, the association has announced that they will remain open for two sessions timed at 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday after Eid-al-Fitr on May 13, 2021. The services will continue to be provided in the following week according to the same timings.
