President Directs Closure of Government Offices till May 15

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has released an official directive announcing the closure of government offices from today til May 15, 2021, in line with the restrictive measures taken by the Health Protection Agency for the same period. This implementation is applicable to Male’, Hulhumale’, Villingili, Thilafushi and Gulhifalhu.  

Regardless of this decision, the period will not be declared as government holidays, according to the statement.  

In his directive released yesterday, it was stated that although all government offices in the Greater Male’ Region are to remain closed as a precautionary measure against the spread of Covid19, employees are required to work from home as needed. Required number of employees will also be permitted to attend their respective offices in order to ensure that all essential services can continue without interruption.  

President Solih has also requested Ministers and Heads of offices and institutions to authorize any exemptions beforehand. In the meantime, other public services will be provided online. He further emphasized on the importance of adhering to the instructions of HPA and act responsibly as individuals and a community together to control the spread of the corona virus.
