Chevening/Maldives Scholarship Programs Officially Established at M.O.U. Signing Between Maldives and U.K.

A ceremony was held at the Ministry of Higher Education today to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between Maldives and the United Kingdom to officially establish the Chevening/Maldives Scholarship Program.

Chevening Scholarships are fully-funded scholarships offered to students who wish to undertake any one-year master's degree course at any university in the U.K. of their choice. Whilst there is no ‘typical’ Chevening Scholar, the program seeks people who have the passion, ideas, and influence to provide the solutions and leadership needed to create a better future.

The MoU was signed by Minister of Higher Education, Dr Ibrahim Hassan and British High Commissioner to Maldives, Caron Rohsler. This partnership program is funded by Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office’s Chevening Awards Program and the Government of the Maldives.

As part of the program, 2 scholarships will be offered in the U.K. academic year of 2021/2022. The courses offered are in the areas of Training Needs Analysis published by the Ministry of Higher Education. These include the fields of Education, Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, Business, Administration, Law, ICT, Engineering, Agriculture, and Health and Welfare services.

Commenting on the announcement, British Commissioner Caron called upon potential investors to co-fund in the initiative, contributing to the development of the program and further opening opportunities to more scholarships every year.
