Virtual Work Permit Cards To Be Issued In The Maldives For The First Time

The Ministry of Economic Development made an announcement today informing that they are going to begin issuing virtual work permit cards for expatriate workers in the Maldives – replacing the previously issued physical cards following the implementation of the regulation regarding expatriate workers in the Maldives.

The ministry cites that virtual cards are more convenient whereas they also cut costs. Accordingly, arrangements have been made for expatriates to receive their virtual work permit card which they may use in addition to the physical card.

Those who request for their work permit card upon the completion of the application process for the work permit can do by emailing the Ministry at wp@trade.gov.mv. Within these days of the request, the physical card will be issued to them by the Ministry whereas the virtual card will be available through the Xpat online system within 48 hours of the completion of the application procedure.

The validity of both the card and its validity period can be easily verified by scanning the QR code on each one.
