On Sunday morning, the pointed United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Representative to the Maldives, Ms Marjan Montazemi, paid a courtesy call on Vice President Faisal Naseem at the President’s Office.
During the meeting, the Vice President welcomed her to the Maldives and extended his gratitude to the organization for their guidance and continued support provided to the Maldives in various areas, and especially during the coronavirus pandemic. In this aspect, UNICEF Maldives have acquired additional 12,000 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines manufactured by the Serum Institute of India as well as 5,850 doses of Pfizer vaccines under COVAX facility to support the ongoing nationwide vaccination efforts.
Ms Montazemi also enlightened the Vice President on the strategy devised to carrying out the work planned in the Maldives to promote children's rights during her tenure. In return, the Vice President briefed Ms Montazemi on the work being done to make the Maldives a better place for children and highlighted that protecting and promoting children’s rights in the Maldives is a top priority for this administration.
Other conversations which took place comprise of the inclusion of youths in climate change advocacy and community involvement in child-related issues.
In concluding the call, Ms. Montazemi reiterated UNICEF’s commitment to continue collaborating with Maldives. The Vice President expressed his hope that the strong partnership between the Maldives and UNICEF would continue to flourish in the coming days.
