On Saturday, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) announced via social media that they have commenced work on the shore protection project at Fulidhoo in Vaavu Atoll. This was a project awarded to the construction giant by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure back in December 2020.
The scope of work under this project will include dredging, backfilling and beach filling of 12,127.50cbm of sand; construction of 210m groynes and 270m breakwater. The project costs a total of MVR 16.94 million and it is expected to be completed within 350 days.
Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) is the first and longest-serving public company in the nation that has position itself as the leading civil and marine constructor in the country. In this capacity, the company continues to successfully undertake multiple projects simultaneously across all parts of the Maldives – even with the difficulties posed by the ongoing pandemic.
The island of Fulidhoo was hit with severe coastal erosion in 2014; an episode that led to the erosion of a large portion of its beach area.
