Temporary Mosque Build On The Land Of Old Zikra Mosque Opens Doors For Devotees

A temporary mosque has been built on the premises of the old Zikra Mosque within a period of just 7 days. The mosque will be able to capacitate 500 devotees at a time.

An inaugural ceremony of the mosque was held yesterday evening where the mosque was officially opened by the Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir Ali. Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister noted that construction work was carried out at all hours of this 7-day period.

The temporary mosque was set up after a petition with 1,000 signatures was submitted to the Islamic Ministry highlighting the concerns and difficulties faced by the locals in the area attending congregation after the old Zikra Mosque was demolished – especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

The temporary mosque was built collaboratively by Sifainge Welfare Company Private Limited (SIWEC) and several other state-owned enterprises including Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), Road Development Corporation (RDC), Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) and Housing Development Corporation Limited (HDC).

Upon its inauguration, from last night onwards, Tharaaweeh prayer has started at the mosque.
