Dheema Ali, is no doubt one of the most promising young table tennis players in the Maldives right now. The thirteen-year-old girl a whole country prides in has brought smiles on our faces once again by ranking eighth in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF)'s Table Tennis World Rankings.
ITTF is the governing body for all national table tennis associations which maintains the official world rankings of tennis players across the world which is formulated based on results in tournaments. Accordingly, Dheema ranks eighth in Under-15 category with 1,028 points. She is also ranked 41st in the single category for under-17 rankings.
To reach the rank, the talented young girl has beaten some of the best players from Japan, the USA, India, and China to be amongst the top ten players of her age in the world.
In 2019, Dheema exhibited remarkable performance whilst representing Maldives in some of the biggest regional tournaments winning gold a number of times. In this regard, she won gold medal for the Maldives in the Indian Ocean Island Games in the single, doubles, and team events. In addition to this. she was an instrumental player in the SAFF Games where Maldives secured a medal for the first time in the sport.
