On Thursday night, Health Protection Agency (HPA) gave the news we have all been waiting for since the beginning of the pandemic. With certain conditions, people will finally be allowed to travel from one island to another without having to quarantine after 20th April.
Accordingly, the directive issued by the Agency reads that quarantine will not be mandatory for individuals traveling to an island of which’s at least 60% of the eligible population has administered both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
For islands in which the amount of people vaccinated from the eligible population is lesser than 60%, individuals who have received both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine are permitted to travel without quarantine following two weeks of receiving the second dose. However, the provision of a negative PCR test will be required if such an individual is traveling from an island with over 5% of positive cases to an island without as many cases in addition to if traveling along with an individual(s) who does not qualify to be vaccinated such as a minor, who must also present a negative PCR test.
Moreover, individuals arriving to Maldives from abroad, inclusive of tourists, are also no longer required to undergo quarantine nor present a negative PCR test subject to that they have completed both doses of the vaccine two weeks prior unless they are:
- Work at a place that provides any type of health services
- Work at a daycare center
- Work at a schools
- Work at places that provide residential care
