The masterplan developed for the suburban city of Hulhumale’ in the Maldives has garnered international attention by winning the Honorable Mention Award in Landscape Architecture/Urban Planning at The Architecture MasterPrize (AMP).
The AMP is an award with a mission to celebrate creativity and innovation in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design. The prize is open to submissions on an international scale, accepting entries from all around the world. Winners are selected by an esteemed jury of architects and leaders in the architecture world – following which they have the opportunity to gain extensive publicity by showcasing their designs to a worldwide audience.
Hulhumale’ is the biggest and the most ambitious urban development project in the Maldives that is currently on the pathway to become the nation’s first sustainable city. The masterplan for the Hulhumale’ City was developed by the architectural firm Archiland / HQ design.
As per AMP, masterplan of Hulhumale 227 HA project for a new capital on artificial island, which develops a sustainable planning framework for climate adaptation and livability to solve the problem of sea-level rise and overloaded living. Combined with existing ecologic resources, the Public Service Axis and the ecologic axis provides attractive public space and livable environments like parks, schools, civic institutions, waterfront space. Historical sites such as the ancient mosque on Male will be transferred Heritage Island Park, creating a vibrant place integrates history, culture and leisure.
The company undertaking the overall planning and the building of Hulhumale City, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has also revealed that they plan to conduct similar projects in elsewhere in the country through the experience they have achieved from this project.
