Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Plc (MTCC) commenced the construction work of a COVID facility at GDh. Thinadhoo; on 25th September 2020, which will have the capacity to accommodate 22-beds.
The Company updated via twitter that the construction was moving in line with the timeline created for the project, thus they are expecting to fully complete the construction of the facility by 14th October 2020, as initially planned. However, no details have been revealed yet in respective of when authorities will begin to operate the facility for the treatment of COVID-19 patients. Stakeholder will see to it that the facility is fully equipped and capable of providing necessary treatment to all patients, prior to commencement of operations.
Chief Executive Officer of MTCC, Mr. Adam Azim stated that the project was undertaken by the Company in order to help government authorities tackle the challenged faced by the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier this morning, Minister of Economic Development, his excellency, Mr. Fayyaz Ismail and Minister of Tourism, his excellency, Dr. Abdualla Mausoom, visited the construction area and inspected the progress so far.
As of yesterday, Health Protection Agency (HPA) has recorded a total of 10,530 positive cases in Maldives of which currently active cases amounts to 1,125 cases, in combination of Greater Male’ Area and residential islands. Maldives has recorded 34 COVID-19 related deaths up to date.
