As per an announcement made by the President’s Office yesterday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had on Thursday appointed Ali Rasheed as the new Deputy Commissioner of Police. The appointment was made as per the power vested in the President under Article 52 (b) of the Police Act (Act 5/2008).
Prior to his appointment, Ali Rasheed was serving in the Maldives Police Service as the Assistant Commissioner of Police. He had been in this rank for more than 11 years and brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
The Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed posted a tweet congratulating Ali Rasheed on his appointment.
Upon the enactment of the new Maldives Police Service Act (Law No. 34/2020) on Saturday, all presently serving Police Officers have been sworn in under the new act – at a special oath-taking ceremony held. The new Act stipulates the fundamental principles, guidelines, roles and other aspects concerning police officers which aims to streamline policing in the country by ensuring adherence to the constitution.
On a side note, today marks the 88th anniversary of the Maldives Police Service.
