The Global Money Week (GMW) is an annual global awareness-raising campaign on the importance of ensuring that young people, from an early age, are financially aware, and are gradually acquiring the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors necessary to make sound financial decisions and ultimately achieve financial well-being and financial resilience. It is organized by the OECD International Network on Financial Education.
Whilst this year’s GMW is taking place between 22nd March to 28th March, the central bank – Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) – is conducting a series of webinars targeted towards students on the occasion. The webinar series was inaugurated on 23rd March whereas it will conclude on the 25th March. The sessions will focus on building up financial management skills from a young age with a highlight on the importance of saving. In addition to this, students will be taught how businesses work and regarding employment in addition to life skills.
The sessions will also focus on this year’s theme for the week: ‘Take care of yourself, take care of your money’, which highlights the importance of building financial resilience and staying healthy in the context of the ongoing pandemic. It will also shed light on the general slogan of the week: ‘Learn.Save.Earn.’
