HPA Eases Measures Taken To Curb The Spread Of COVID-19 In The Greater Male’ Region

In the early hours of today, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has made an announcement easing some of the measures taken to control the spread of COVID-19 in the Greater Male’ Region.

Accordingly, the vehicular ban imposed from 6pm to 6am in the area has now been lifted. The decision was come to after taxi drivers had gathered and protested outside the People’s Majilis just yesterday, as the vehicle ban continued to deplete their income. They have also presented a formal letter to the People’s Majilis highlighting their concerns.

Apart from this, permission has also been given to reopen public parks.

Nevertheless, the remaining measures imposed in the Greater Male’ Region has been extended by additional seven days which are:

· 11pm to 4:30am curfew
·  No public gatherings of five or more people
·  Closure of cinemas and film theaters
·  Closure of running tracks
·  Ban on exercising and sporting activities in groups
·  Suspension of physical classes in colleges, universities
·  Closure of pre-school, nurseries and daycares
·  Requirement of PCR test taken 72 hours prior to traveling

While the measures have been eased for the Greater Male’ Region, a total of 89 positive cases were recorded from the area yesterday.
