Fiyavathi, Home For Vulnerable Children In Hulhumale’ Gets A Revamp With Grant Assistance From India!

Yesterday, a virtual ceremony was held to mark the completion of the renovation of Fiyavathi Home for Vulnerable Children in Hulhumale’ – a project valued at MVR 1.9 million which was funded by Grant Assistance from the Government of India. The ceremony was graced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Shahid, High Commissioner of India to the Maldives His Excellency Mr. Sunjay Sudhir and State Ministers of Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services, Ms. Aishath Rasheed and Ms. Zifleena Hassan.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Shahid highlighted that it is the Government’s responsibility to ensure that children in a state of socioeconomic vulnerability are provided with adequate care and attention whereas this project was carried out under this responsibility. Renovations carried out under the project included of procuring additional beds, construction of cupboards, painting interior and exterior walls and strengthening the functionality of the Home. This all effectively provides a safe and conducive environment for nurturing the growth and development of the children.

The Grant Assistance of MVR 106 million by the Government of India was provided back in March 2019 for the purpose of conducting high-impact socio-economic development projects across the nation. The projects under this grant are managed by local authorities.
