AgroNat introduces ‘Startup Package’ for Farmers

Agro National Corporation is the state-owned enterprise mandated with revitalizing the long-undervalued agriculture sector in the Maldives as per the Blue Economy vision. By eradicating the challenges faced by local farmers in implementing modern developments in farming techniques and technology, AgroNat aims to expedite an efficient supply-chain for local agricultural products that will enable farmers to collect a fair price for their produce.

AgroNat has introduced a Startup Package ahead of Ramazan for farmers who are registered under the Contract Farming initiative by the organization. In a special appearance on National TV, Head of Marketing, Ahmed Zaki informed on the opportunity that will help farmers buy equipment and raw materials needed to prepare the base on the farms at a rate 20% lower than that of the market price.

The package further boosts efficiency for farmers by allowing repayment of the purchases in feasible installments depending on the income generated by the produce.

The company has established farming on 43 islands across the Maldives and listed 17 different items of fruits and vegetables that can be farmed in partnership with the Contract Farming program. Farmers who have participated in the program last year have already started seeing fruitful progress as they harvest the first round of produce which have reportedly sold out already.
