The Maldivian community has for a long time being negligent in developing facilities for the differently-abled to access and enjoy everyday commodities just like the rest of us. However, major awareness programs and advocational efforts by a number of stakeholders have started to shift the trend and we are seeing more inclusion for consideration of the differently-abled community in upcoming developments in the present times than ever before.
In an event held at the Artificial Beach yesterday, MTCC has marked the commencement of physical works of the construction of an accessible ramp in the Artificial Beach for the differently-abled community. Alongside CEO Adam Azim, Minister of Youth, Sport and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof and members of Maldives Association for Persons with Disabilities (MAPD) graced the event.
This project is an undertaking as part of MTCC’s Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives, an important tradition of MTCC in doing their part for the greater good of the community. According to the company, the scope of works include the construction of a 48.24 sqm walkway and a ramp, a changing hoist and a shading hut.
MTCC aims to continue making such significant contributions, especially to make our society more inclusive for the differently-abled community. The company states that this project too will be completed and handed over to the government at the earliest possible.
