Maldives rolled out its nationwide vaccination drive against COVID-19 on the 1st of February whereas the health authorities have administered the first dose of the vaccine to over 218,000 people as of yesterday. However, they had discontinued the administration of the first dose to those residing in the Male’ Area as of 15th March – with exception categories – citing that preparations were underway to commence the administration of the second dose.
However, it was announced yesterday by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) that they will re-commence the administration of the first dose again in the Male’ Area for people who do not fall under the exception categories as well. In this regard, they note they will be announcing a date for when vaccination will begin again very soon.
As there are many people who still have not gotten the first jab yet, they are highly encouraged to vaccinated in this round as authorities will start administering the second dose in April.
However, Health Protection Agency (HPA) has stated that the second dose may be given under special circumstances such as in cases of emergency or in situations a person is required to travel and could not be back within the time for the second dose. One must evidence the situation will relevant documents though.
