The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted four Indian companies for the development of water and sewage facilities in 34 islands. The projects are being carried out under the USD 800 million credit facility extended by the Government of India, through the EXIM Bank of India.
Accordingly, here are the details of the projects assigned to each company.
Visharaj Environment Private Limited
Six projects awarded for a total of USD 18,489,229.90. These are the development of:
· Water system at Kelaa in Haa Alifu Atoll – To be completed in 20 months
· Water system at Baarah in Haa Alifu Atoll – To be completed in 20 months
· Water and Sewage System at Vaikaradhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll – To be completed in 26 months
· Water system at Funadhoo in Shaviyani Atoll – To be completed in 20 months
· Water and Sewage system at Lhaimagu in Shaviyani Atoll – To be completed in 26 months
· Water system at Manadhoo in Noonu Atoll – To be completed in 20 months
JMC Projects (India) Limited
Five Projects awarded for a total of USD 13,850,759.24. These are the development of:
· Water system at Kurendhoo in Lhaviyani Atoll – To be completed in 20 months
· Water and Sewage system at Gaafaru in Kaafu Atoll – To be completed in 26 months
· Water system at Kaashidhoo in Kaafu Atoll – To be completed in 20 months
· Sewage System at Thoddoo in Alifu Alifu Atoll – To be completed in 22 months
· Water and Sewage System at Maalhos in Alifu Alifu Atoll – To be completed in 26 months
They were also awarded additional five project for a total of USD 14,098,417.64. These are the development of:
· Sewage system at Dhangethi in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll – To be completed in 22 months
· Water and Sewage system at Dhigurah in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll – To be completed in 26 months
· Water and Sewage system at Fulidhoo in Vaavu Atoll – To be completed in 26 months
· Water and Sewage system at Felidhoo in Vaavu Atoll – To be completed in 26 months
· Water and Sewage system at Thinadhoo in Vaavu Atoll – To be completed in 26 months
SMC Infrastructures Private Limited
Seven projects awarded for a total of USD 21,250,831.59. These are the development of:
· Water system at Kolhufushi in Meemu Atoll – To be completed in 20 months
· Water and Sewage System at Maduvvari in Meemu Atoll – To be completed in 26 months
· Water system at Muli in Meemu Atoll – To be completed in 20 months
· Water system at Bilehdhoo in Faafu Atoll – To be completed in 20 months
· Water and Sewage system at Dharabandhoo in Faafu Atoll – To be completed in 26 months
· Water and Sewage system at Badidhoo in Dhaalu Atoll – To be completed in 26 months
· Water system at Meedhoo in Dhaalu Atoll – To be completed in 20 months
They were also awarded additional five projects for a total of USD 19,376,895.46. These are the development of:
· Water and Sewage system at Hirilandhoo in Thaa Atoll – To be completed in 26 months
· Water system and Gan in Laamu Atoll – To be completed in 20 months
· Water system at Isdhoo Kalhaidhoo in Laamu Atoll – To be completed in 20 months
· Water system at Maamendhoo in Laamu Atoll – To be completed in 20 months
· Water and Sewage system at Maabaidhoo in Laamu Atoll – To be completed in 26 months
Triveni Engineering & Industries Limited
Six projects awarded for a total of USD 22,801,199.56. These are the development of:
· Water system at Dhaandhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll – To be completed in 20 months
· Water system at Gemanafushi in Gaafu Alifu Atoll – To be completed in 20 months
· Water system at Maamendhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll – To be completed in 20 months
· Water system at Madaveli in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll – To be completed in 20 months
· Water and Sewage System at Faresmaathoda in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll – To be completed in 26 months
· Water and Sewage System at Hoadehdhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll – To be completed in 26 months
With this, there are now only 25 islands in the country that requires such systems. Out of this bids have been opened for 14 islands on Wednesday while bids for the remaining islands would be announced sometime during the upcoming week. Contractors will be chosen over the next two months.
