President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as currently in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh on a two-day visit. Yesterday afternoon, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country, Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen, paid a courtesy call on the President at the InterContinental Hotel. They were accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Dr. Abdulla Shahid.
During the call, the President extended his gratitude to the Government of Bangladesh for their continued support rendered to the Maldives in multiple areas, including the most assistance provided amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. While the pandemic is the most pressing issue for all of us at this time, the Bangladeshi Government had provided Maldives with a generous donation in addition to having deployed medical teams from the Bangladeshi Air Force on two occasions which played a significant role in managing the situation in the Maldives more efficiently. The Bangladeshi Foreign Minister responses their it was their pleasure to assist the Maldives.
Both the parties also discussed at length on the great value accorded by both countries to strengthen the existing mutual relationship between both countries. In line with this, fostering bilateral ties and developmental corporation, especially in commerce, human resource development, international cooperation, and mutual areas of interest were comprehensively talked about.
Apart from this, the Bangladeshi Foreign Minister acknowledged and commended the Maldivian government's positive efforts in regularizing and repatriating Bangladeshi workers in the Maldives. Hearing this, the President assured that his administration would guarantee and the welfare and wellbeing of Bangladeshi citizens residing in the Maldives. In this regard, the President cites the Government’s commitment to vaccinate migrant workers – documented or undocumented – free of charge.
