At a ministerial questioning session held at the Parliament today, the Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem has stated that all islands across the country will have their own ambulances by upcoming June.
Whilst the Ministry is targeting to bring in new ambulances enough for all the islands, the earliest it is expected to arrive in the country is by April. Moreover, as some ambulances that are already used are damaged – replacements will be sent to these islands as well. According to the Minister, there are three ways ambulances are delivered to the islands. One is by the expenditure of the Ministry, second through aid from the Government of Japan and then an unnamed program.
The statement from Minister Naseem was made whilst answering a question raised by the Member of Constituency of Makunudhoo, Mohamed Raai stating that ambulances have not arrived to the island of Makunudhoo even being promised on two occasions that ambulances will be sent.
The Minister admits the Ministry’s failure to consider small islands as much as it should – but notes that propriety will be given to Makunudhoo this time.
The same concern was also raised by several other members of the Parliament.
