After concluding an official visit to the State of Qatar, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih – accompanied by First Lady Fazna Ahmed and a high-level delegation from the Maldivian Government – has on today morning arrived at the People’s Republic of Bangladesh on a three-day state visit. Upon arrival, they were welcomed by the President of Bangladesh, His Excellency Md. Abdul Hamid and First Lady Rashida Hamid at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
A 21-gun salute marked their arrival that was followed by the national anthems of both countries. Then the President inspected a guard of honor before being introduced to senior members of the Bangladeshi government.
Next, the President visited the National Martyrs’ Memorial and Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhaka which is a prominent national monument that honors all those who sacrificed their lives during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971 that delivered independence for the nation. The memorial symbolizes Bangladeshi freedom won through great sacrifice.
While there, the President attended a wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate the heroism and patriotism of those who sacrificed their lives to win Bangladesh’s independence. He also signed the visitor’s book and planted a sapling at the site.
He then went on to visit the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum and toured the museum grounds. This use to be the home of Late Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who laid the groundwork for Bangladesh to attain independence – hence remembered fondly as an icon of democracy and self-determination. The house later converted into the museum is a monument celebrating his lifetime of accomplishments and struggles.
Later on this visit, the President is scheduled to attend a ceremony commemorating the ‘Birth Centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.’ A courtesy call will also be carried out to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina which will be followed by meetings with other senior officials of the Bangladeshi government. These discussions will revolve around the subject of further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
Furthermore, the President is also set to meet the Maldivians residing in the country.
