All You Need To Know About ‘The Maldives Accelerator Lab’ Launched Last Night

Launched in 2019, the Accelerator Labs Network is the newest service offering of the UNDP that works with people, governments, the private sector and other partners to reimagine development for the 21st century. Accelerator Labs create actionable intelligence, test solutions with national partners, accelerating learning about what works and what does not in development so that we can get faster results on the ground. At present, there are Accelerator Labs in 90 locations supporting a total of 114 countries.

Last night, UNDP Maldives launched ‘The Maldives Accelerator Lab’ at a special virtual event held – joining the network of the 90 other labs. Together with the Lab partners, it will unleash the power of collective intelligence, local innovations and experimentation by exploring, testing, and growing solutions for sustainable development in the country and co-designing new approaches to address development problems.

Speaking at the event the UNDP Resident Representative to the Maldives, Ms. Akiko Fuji, notes that the Accelerator Lab is a “gel that brings different actors together to gather intelligence, co-design and test solutions, and spark new partnerships to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs.”

The Maldives Accelerator Lab hails with global knowledge, experiences and methodologies, and supports the contextualized application of these to help the island nation address pressing challengers starting from the future of work to the future of the tourism industry. Accordingly, it will be working with national stakeholders to unpack the issue and co-design solutions.
