These Groups From The Male’ Area That Can Continue To Receive 1st Dose Of Vaccination After 15th March

As authorities prepare to administer the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, it was announced earlier that they would cease administering the first dose to those residing in the Male’ Area after 15th March.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) on today have disclosed the groups that can continue to get the first dose after 15th March which is as follows:

- People at high risk of developing complications. This includes people above the age of 50 years
- People in isolation & those who have not completed 28 days after being diagnosed with COVID-19
- People in quarantine, either being contacts or due to traveling
- People having to delay taking the vaccine because of a medical condition

Whereby two days remain in this regard, we encourage all living within the Male’ Area who does not fit in any of these groups to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

Vaccination in the Maldives began on 1st February and since then a total of 188,436 people have received the first dose of the vaccine across the country of which 105,836 of them are residents in the Male’ Area.

Although the administering of the first dose will be discontinued on 15th March, it is likely that the inoculation of the second dose will not begin until April, given that the HPA has stated that the second dose will only be administered eight weeks after the first dose
