A No Confidence Motion Has Been Filed Against Minister Zaha

With the signature of 11 Parliamentarians from the opposition - a no-confidence motion has been filed against the Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Ms. Zaha Waheed. A minimum of 10 signatures are required to submit no-confidence motions against a Cabinet Minister whereas the Parliament can remove the Minister from the position through the votes of 43 parliamentarians.

The motion accused the Minister of her failure to act on the government’s pledges or conduct any activities to promote the sector in addition to the failure to establish the required regulations under the new Fisheries Act. It is also cited that she failed to provide a fair price for fisherperson’s catch. In addition to this, the pledges to establish yellowfin tuna huts and neighborhood fish factories have not been fulfilled. Hence, it is said that her time at the office would only prove to be detrimental to those working in the fisheries industry and their families.

According to People’s Majilis, notice regarding the no-confidence motion has been sent to the Minister today.

Just recently, the Parliament had voted in favor of a motion to remove the former Minister of Communications, Science and Technology, Mohamed Mohamed Maleeh Jamal from his position – the first Cabinet Minister of the current administration to be removed from office with a no-confidence motion.
