MIRA To Carry Out Two Programs Targeted Towards Income Taxpayers To Improve Compliance

Local tax administrator, Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) revealed in their ‘Overview of Compliance Improvement Plan 2021’ that they would be providing taxpayer facilitation and assistance in fulfilling income tax obligations and conduct awareness programs as wells.

Adhering to the plan, MIRA has announced two programs targeted towards income taxpayers: Income Tax Awareness Program & Income Tax Assistance Program.

Income Tax Awareness Program

Income Tax Awareness Program will be held between March and May. The program is targeted towards businesses, schools and other income earners.

Income Tax Assistance Program

This program is targeted towards small business owners who have to submit their income tax statements for the year 2020. It will also be held between March and May.

Those small businesses who have earned an income of less than MVR 10 million for the year 2020 and have chosen to prepare their income tax statement on a ‘cash basis’ can request for assistance through this program.

In the light of the measures imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country, both the program will be held via online resources. However, depending on the situation – island visits will be carried out through MIRA’s branches and collection centers to selected islands.
