UN Maldives Team Launches An Action Campaign To Amplify Commitments Made By Leaders

On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2021 – the United Nations team in the Maldives has launched an Action Campaign that aims to amplify commitments made by leaders to make meaningful, timely changes in their institution or sector towards achieving gender equality and zero-discrimination.

The first two video pledges are from His Excellency President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the Chief Justice Honorable Muthasim Adnan. With this, invitations are now open for leaders at various levels of Government, Cabinet Ministers, Parliament, the Judiciary, Political Parties, Civil Society Organizations and the Private Sector to take part in the campaign until 15th March through the hashtag ‘#IWDPledges2021’.

The UN Maldives teams also note that this year’s campaign is different and that it is not just a single day for announcements whereby results matter. Accordingly, they will compile all the commitments made under the hashtag and will continue to closely monitor and track the progress to encourage implementation.

They further reiterate their commitment to support and create more inclusive communities at which women and girls have equal opportunities to reach their full potential and accelerate the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 5 - Gender Equality.
