Back in August 2020, the Speaker of Parliament, His Excellency Mohamed Nasheed revealed that Southern Stallions had obtained the necessary permits to bring horses to Addu City for recreational purposes. This was followed by a public outrage as the Maldives lacks veterinary care and experiences caretakers for such an animal.
However, on Thursday, Maldives State Shipping (MSS) which currently carries out cargo ferry services between Tuticorin of India and Addu City, revealed that horses have been put aboard one of the vessels that had sailed its way to the Maldives. This is the first time a vessel of MSS is carrying live animals. The vessel is expected to arrive in Addu City sometime tomorrow.
As public concerns still persist, Southern Stallions have taken it to Twitter to assure the horses will be well taken care of. In this regard, they stress on the fact that prior to the shipment of the horses' arrangements have been made for veterinarian, medicine and food that they may require. They also note that details pertaining to the matters have been disclosed to relevant government authorities.
