Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets With Members Of The OIC At The United Nations

Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Shahid, met up with the members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the United Nations – virtually. Permanent Representatives and representatives from a number of Member States of the OIC were in attendance.

Since 1976, Maldives has been a proud member of the OIC – partnering up with other Member States in advocating on issues such as sustainable development, climate change, public health, and Islamophobia, terrorism and the rights of Muslims, including the Palestinian people, and women and children. The Minister also noted that since the inception of the Organization, it has come to become a unified body of members that continues to stand up for matters close to the hearts of over 1.5 billion Muslims in the world.

Apart from this, the Minister also conveyed his thoughts on pathways to sustainable recovery from COVID-19, sustainable development in general, revitalization of the work of the General Assembly, and also stressed the importance of working together to enhance the multilateral system and international cooperation.
