A Team Bangladeshi Healthcare Professionals To Assist In The Maldives Nationwide Vaccination Drive

Responding to the request of the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, a team of 23 Bangladeshi healthcare professionals from the Bangladesh Air Force will be arriving in the Maldives today in order to assist local healthcare professionals in the nationwide vaccination effort; the ‘COVID-19 Dhifaau’ campaign. The request was conveyed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid during his recent visit to Dhaka, Bangladesh – to his counterpart in the country.

The Government of Bangladeshi is deploying a team comprising of 11 nurses, 10 medical assistants and an anesthesiologist for a period of two-months. They will collaborate with local healthcare professionals in Malé City and regional hospitals and healthcare centers across the country.

As the current administration’s goal of making vaccines accessible to all those living in the Maldives for free including documented and undocumented migrant workers – the team’s input will be of handy as it will enable migrant workers, many of whom come from Bangladesh, to overcome linguistic barriers that might have prevented them from accessing vaccination facilities.

The Maldives began vaccinating migrant workers under its nationwide vaccination drive on 24th February.
