Ministry Of Education’s ‘Telekilass’ Honored At An International Level

The Ministry of Education of the Maldives began broadcasting their television program ‘Telekilass’ on 15th March 2020 consequent to the closure of schools in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic with the aim to help thousands of students nationwide to continue to learn despite the situation. As part of the program, teachers broadcasted lesion through PSM’s Munnaaru channel, YES TV, and Dhivehi Channel.Recently, the program has been recognized and honored on an international level upon being conferred The Wenhui Award for Educational Innovation 2020 in the Asia-Pacific Region.

Jointly created by the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Programme of Educational Innovation for Development (APEID) and the National Commission of the People’s Republic of China for UNESCO in 2010, The Wenhui Award is aimed at recognizing and rewarding individuals or institutions that have made outstanding contributions to educational innovation in the Asia-Pacific region.

Against the background of the COVID-19 pandemic and in view of the crucial importance of innovation for education in emergencies and crises, this year’s Wenhui Award is themed “Educational Innovation in Response to Pandemic and Other Emergencies”.

The Ministry of Education is one of the two conferred the Award for their outstanding efforts and achievements in educational innovation with regard to this year’s theme. With the win, they have received a cash price of USD 20,000.
