MoNPHI & Afcons Infrastructure Ltd. Seals Deal On Addu City Road Development Project Worth MVR 1.19 Billion

At a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday morning, the Ministry of National Planning, Housing & Infrastructure has signed with Afcons Infrastructure Limited of India for the design and build of roads and a drainage system in Addu City.

The project is said to be worth a whopping price of MVR 1.19 billion – falling under the umbrella of the USD 147.1 million loans provided the Maldives by the Exim Bank of India. In this regard, the project will be financed under USD 800 million line of credit from the Bank.

Work under the project will comprise of the following:
· Establishment of drainage systems measuring approximately 103km in length in all islands of Addu City with the exception of Feydhoo, in order to resolve flooding issues
· Constructing asphalt roads in all residential areas of the city, measuring 40km whereas an additional 60km of road will be given a cement stabilized layer to prevent sand from clogging the drainage system
· Resurfacing work on 3.4 kilometers of asphalt road
· Construction of a four-lane detour link road stretching 1.43km that will connect the Hithadhoo Gaukede with Maradhoo

Afcons Infrastructure Limited must complete the project in a span of 730 days.

The Ministry notes that they will undertake the task to install light fixtures and CCTVs in the roads developed under the project in addition to establishing other traffic safety measures.
