President Appeals To The Sports Community To Advocate Preventive Measures Against COVID-19

On Monday afternoon, the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with the representatives of the first division football clubs at the President’s Office.

During this meeting, the President appealed to the sports community, especially popular sports figures to utilize their influential role and advocate for preventive measures such as social distancing, vaccination and wearing masks – coming out as model citizens. This is crucially important at the moment as the nation faced the third and the most dangerous wave of COVID-19 with positive cases reaching over 100 almost every day.

This was a meeting held in order to share the collective views of first division football clubs in relation to the resumption of the annual football season and discussed avenues of resolving other pertinent issues. It was crucially noted that the COVID-10 recovery measures had weighed down the clubs financially with emphasis on the heavy burden of supporting their players amidst the pandemic. Hearing these concerns, the President gave his word that his Administration would collaborate with relevant stakeholders to address the issues raised.

The President also further urged sports clubs and players to respect the protective measures in force to prevent the transmission of the deadly virus in a bid to overcome the pandemic as soon as possible.
