Undocumented Migrant Workers To Be Registered For Vaccination Through Maldivian Red Crescent

During a press conference held at the Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC) last night, it was revealed that stakeholders were gearing up to vaccinate the migrant worker population living in the Maldives. Whereas a significant number of those migrant workers live undocumented, they will also be given equal right to be vaccinated.

In this regard, vaccination for undocumented migrants will be carried out through Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) by registering to its beneficiary system. Registration is set to begin tomorrow. Accordingly, undocumented migrants are urged to contact the MRC’s Migrant Support Center hotline numbers - 9114584 or 9114512 – to register for the beneficiary system. To complete the registration, they will be issued an appointment to come in. Registrations will open tomorrow. MRC hopes to register 250 migrants per day.

However, documented migrants must register for vaccination through Health Protection Agency’s Portal: my.health.mv or via their employees.

The Secretary General of MRC, Ms. Fathimath Himya also added that activities were underway to create awareness amongst all migrant workers regarding COVID-19 vaccine and their right for a jab. This will take place in collaboration with employers of migrant workers.

Maldives commenced its vaccination drive on 1st February. At present, over 38k people have received the first dose of the vaccine.
