Bank of Maldives Advices Against Payment Confirmation Through Third Party Websites

Through an announcement made today, Bank of Maldives Plc (BML) has revealed that it has come to their attention that some of their customers are using third party websites to confirm transactions. Whilst they have only named www.kashavaru.com as such, these websites are attempting to use BML’s Internet Banking platform to receive third-party transfer confirmations. In this regard, customers are initially asked to provide their personal information such as name, contact number and account number. Upon receiving a confirmation code, customers are then required to enter their Internet Banking username and password.

As customers can use their Internet or Mobile Banking Application to confirm transactions, the Bank advises its customers not to use these websites for payment confirmation. They also advise customers to not use their Internet Banking credentials on external sites or share these details with anyone.

Bank of Maldives takes their responsibility to protect the customers’ personal information earnestly, whereas several security measures have been put in place to protect customer information against unauthorized access, theft or general misuse. Nevertheless, when customers voluntarily share personal credentials with a third party, it hinders the controls in place to main this confidentiality.

The Bank also notes that it will continue to monitor such websites and will take necessary actions to mitigate any risks which pose to its customers.
