Contribute To The Groundbreaking Maldives Postal Banking Project By Filling This Survey

On yesterday, the Maldives Capacity Development and Governance Institute (MCDGI) announced the first-ever national survey on Postal Banking. It was officially launched by the Chairperson of the Male’ Water and Sewerage Company, who was the former Finance Secretary of the President's Office and a strong advocate of Postal Banking, Mr. Ahmed Mausoom.

The survey is being facilitated and administered by them as part of the feasibility study for the Maldives Postal Banking Project on behalf of the project consultant for Maldives Post Limited (MPL). The government first discussed implementing Postal Banking in the Maldives back in 2010. After 11 long years, MPL is finally going to test the waters for postal banking in the nation.

Postal Banking system can be traced all the way back to the late 18th century. In simple terms, Postal Banking is the provision of low-cost, consumer-driven financial services via the Postal Service such as bill payments, savings accounts, and loans. It would be particularly advantageous for those who do not have access to affordable financial services. In around 139 countries from all over the world, postal services offer some form of financial service.
