Food cravings are sudden urges to eat a particular type of food. They are a real phenomenon and affect many women during pregnancy. Nevertheless, it is just something that passes as easily as it comes in most cases and rarely considered serious. But, that was not the case for Aesha Latheef, for who her pregnancy cravings eventually set the path to a bold, yet wholesome passion project: Milk & Yolk.
Milk & Yolk is the startup that has been winning the hearts of many for its artisan granola blends and breakfast products, for a little over a year now. When Aesha was pregnant with her firstborn, she experienced some serious granola cravings – eventually beginning to experiment with flavors she loved, to satisfy the cravings. When visitors to her home started to take note of the jars she had filled with the blends, they began to try it and loved it just as much as she did. It did not take long from there for her to receive orders and eventually start a small business out of it.
In addition to a variety of granola blends, Milk & Yolk has expanded its products portfolio to include granola dust made especially for kids with natural ingredient without sugar, salt, oil and preservatives; protein bars which are perfect for a grab pre-workout or post-workout; chocolate ganache bars for indulgence and finally, the newest addition – jams and nut butter. The recipes have been created from scratch by Aesha and have gone through a testing phase prior to being put up for sale.
All are freshly made in small batches when orders are received. The special touch Aesha adds to every order is personalization to cater to the different preferences of each customer whether be it due to dietary or nutrient requirements, allergies and health conditions etc.
Of course, making Milk & Yolk a success was by no means a one-way road. Milk & Yolk, the brand was initially come up with by Aesha and her husband all the way back in 2010, and it has been on her mind ever since – having no idea what exactly it would be today. Somewhere along the way, there was a failed business as well. Granola blends and breakfast products is a niche area in this country. Thus, when boldly stepping into the zone, Aesha points her success to her comprehensive research and planning. Nevertheless, every business has periods of time where they are tested and for Milk & Yolk, this was when the ongoing coronavirus pandemic hit, which hindered acquiring the ingredients and other products needed for the business.
Discussing future prospects, Aesha notes that there are endless possibilities as there are so many things she would like to do. So, we or she can tell you what to expect from Milk & Yolk in the future.
But for anyone who would like to establish a business and have no idea where to start, Aesha advises you to just go ahead and do it to find out the answers you are looking for. Nevertheless, or Aesha, Milk & Yolk is something more than business, it is personal. This is represented as she does not have a separate personal and a business account. Milk & Yolk, the Instagram page itself will tell you a lot about Aesha herself, and her life – adding a twist of wholesomeness. And maybe, that could be your way to go as well.
