Familiarization Trips, commonly referred to as Fam Trips are educational trips organized exclusively for media partners, travel agents and resellers by travel operators and marketers. Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) is the government body mandated to market Maldives as a tourist destination whereas part of their work is to organize such trips.
In line with this, it was announced yesterday that they have welcomed a renowned freelance journalist from the United Kingdom, Lisa Kjellsson, in order to promote the Maldives to the UK market. This marks the second of the many planned fam trips to be conducted this year and the first one to be carried out for the UK market.
The fam trip is being carried out with a purpose to promote the island nation as safe haven amidst the pandemic evidenced with the strict safety measures in place and the unique naturally distanced islands which supports this. Additionally, the fam trip will showcase the unique experiences one can find pleasure in here with focus on safety, luxury and eco-initiatives.
Lisa arrived in the Maldives on 2nd February. During her two-week long trip, she will be hosted by Kuramathi island Resort, The Nautilus Maldives, Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru, Hurawalhi Maldives, Kagi Maldives Spa Island and Six Senses Laamu where she will get to enjoy spa and wellness activities, sustainable initiatives including coral regeneration and other marine conservation efforts, snorkeling and other watersports, tasting signature cuisines and other experiences unique to the respective properties such as underwater dining.
She contributes to high profile travel and lifestyle publications such as Sleeper, Tatler, West London Living, Citizen Femme and Robb Report, all which targets an affluent audience in the UK. The combined coverage generated regarding the destination from all these publications is expected to reach nearly a million readers.
The UK market is one that is important to the Maldives, in terms of tourist arrivals. In 2020, over 52k tourists visited the Maldives from UK, ranking as the third highest arrival market despite the ongoing pandemic and travel restrictions.
