‘Maldives Border Miles’ – First Of Its Kind Loyalty Program For Tourists

After almost four months since the borders of Maldives were closed for tourist arrivals, it was lifted on 15th July 2020. Whilst the tourism industry accounts for the major income of the country, the economy of Maldives was strained significantly during this period of time. In order to mitigate the losses occurred due to this, stakeholders are collaboratively working to reinstate the tourism sector.

As a foot forward to achieve this goal, Maldives Immigration introduced ‘Maldives Border Miles’, a loyalty program for tourists, which was inaugurated by Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, during a special virtual ceremony held last night to mark the World Tourism Day 2020. ‘Maldives Border Milles’ program is the first of its kind in the world.

The loyalty program is an incentive aimed to encourage repeated tourist to Maldives. It is very plausible that this would successfully support all stakeholders working to rebuilt our tourism sector. The program will be officially implemented on 1st December 2020 and maneuvered jointly by Ministry of Tourism, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation and Maldives Airports Company Limited.

Each tier is defined by a set variety of rewards, services or benefits, which increase in value as members’ progresses. Visitors enrolled in this program can earn points based on the number of visits and duration of stay so as to achieve movement through the tiers. Additional points are rewarded for the visits on special occasions.
