Established in 2017, Business Center Corporation (BCC) is the national SME Development organization of the Maldives under administrative support from the Ministry of Economic Development.
In line with their mission, presently they have numerous programs and activities planned out to assist SMEs operating in the Maldives such as the co-shared kitchen initiative for individuals preparing and selling food from home in addition to the co-work space facility, packaging facility, product certification service and SME rating system which is set to launch this year.
Another one they would like to that list is the upcoming business pitch competition targeted towards local young entrepreneurs which aims to assist them implement their creative business ideas and to help them grow. It also hopes to speed up economic progress following the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, by effectively removing obstacles faced by SMEs in addition to facilitating a conducive business environment.
According to BCC, young individuals from anywhere in the island nation between the ages 18 and 35 are eligible to participate in the competition. They can take part individually or even as a team.
Whilst BCC will allow business ideas to be pitched in in a wide range of sectors, they will be selecting a total of 300 young entrepreneurs to assist them in making their ideas a reality.
