‘Escape To Maldives: Calm Awaits’ – A Campaign To Promote Maldives By MMRC & TripAdvisor

For 2021, the main mission of the government-mandated body marketing Maldives as a holiday destination worldwide - Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) - is to contribute to achieving the pre-pandemic tourist arrival numbers and they are doing everything in their power to ensure so through its stringent marketing efforts. In this regard, on Friday, MMPRC revealed the commencement of another marketing campaign – Escape to Maldives: Calm Awaits. This campaign is in collaboration with the world’s largest travel platform, TripAdvisor.

TripAdvisor assists millions of travelers each month to make every trip their best trip. It is the ultimate travel companion that is available in 49 markets in 28 languages. Travelers from all over the world use the TripAdvisor website and application to browse more than 878 million reviews and opinions of 8.8 million accommodations, restaurants, experiences, airlines and cruises etc.

This campaign which is set to run from January 2021 to September 2021 which targets the US, Europe and APAC region in order to connect Maldives with the largest travel community in the world. Despite the borders of most European countries being closed at present, the aim of this campaign will align with keeping European tourists dreaming of the island nation at the same time, encouraging them to travel to the destination once borders are reopened.

As a whole, the campaign aims to create more destination awareness through compelling content and curated itineraries in order to influence potential travelers to the Maldives. It will also highlight and stress on safety measures in place in the country to assure tourists that Maldives is a safe haven despite the pandemic.

Commenting on the campaign, Group Head of Destination Marketing APAC at TripAdvisor, Ms. Sara Mathews states that data and insights from their website indicate that travelers are searching for destinations where they can unwind and relax. They have also noted that beach holidays with outdoor activities have remained a main choice for many travelers. If this not make Maldives the perfect destination for them, then we do not know what will.
