Virtual Running Event ‘Run4Maldives’ Begins

We had previously informed our readers about of the virtual running event ‘Run4Maldives’ being organized by Unix Sporting. The event is dubbed as the first international virtual marathon in Maldives. Virtual running allows participants to complete the run wherever they want, however they want at any locations in a self-set space during a given time frame. However, participants will need to evidence the completion of their run.

The virtual run commences today as it had been planned so in prior. Our first lady, Ms. Fazna Ahmed had endorsed the event in her personal Instagram account; additionally, it was also announced that she will be running a virtual half marathon.

The run is dedicated to all frontline workers fighting the COVID-19 pandemic globally. Unix Sporting will be gifting a percentage of the revenue generated from the registrations fee to Maldives Thalassemia Society (MTS) and Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC). Locals and foreigners are welcome to register for the run. Participants have the option to register for their own choice of run in the 4 categories. Unix Sporting and Ms. Fazna Ahmed urges participants to follow Health Protection Agency guidelines for physical distancing.

Additionally, Unix Sporting aspires to smash the current world record for most number of people to run a remote 5K and are actively working with Guinness World Records in order to achieve so. The current world record is 6718 people.

This run is all about supporting and giving back to the community. The event organizers are updating the progress of the runners via social media.
