A currency symbol or currency sign is a graphic symbol used as a shorthand for a currency's name, especially in reference to amounts of money in writings. Whilst in Maldives, this is not the case for our national currency – Maldivian Rufiyaa – on Sunday, the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has announced their decision to establish one. For this purpose, the Authority have declared of a Currency Symbol Designing Competition, which is open to all citizens nationwide. The winner who will be bestowed the honor of being the designer of the first currency symbol of the Maldivian Rufiyaa is set to receive a reward prize of MVR 20k.
In this regard, MMA has publicized a comprehensive set of instructions regarding the rules of the competition, how to submit your work and how your submissions will be judged that is available for you to view here. The deadline for the competition is set to 1400 hours on 21st February 2021.
