As part of the International Medical Education and Research Conference (IMERC) 2025, Tree top hospital in partnership with Villa College has conducted two advanced medical workshops. Held on 3 rd November and 4 th, the sessions saw 36 healthcare professionals get focused practical practice training by Mayo Clinic experts.
Day one was dedicated to a workshop on how to do a Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) taught by Dr. Eric Leveille of Mayo Clinic, Instructor of Family Medicine. The program started with an introductory speech delivered by Dr. Kanchan Dhungel Adhikari, Consultant Radiologist and Head of Radiology in tree top Hospital. Dr. Leveille took the participants through the fundamentals of bedside ultrasound and provided an idea of the clinical applications of POCUS which provided a clear insight into how POCUS assists in providing a timely diagnosis and care to the patient.
During the second day, the attention was moved to Interventional Radiology through a hands-on workshop by Dr. Haraldur Bjarnason who is a Radiologist and Specialist in Vascular Medicine. The session, introduced by the Radiology department of the hospital and assisted by the knowledge of Dr. Rayya Ahmed Siddiq, IMERC Organizer and Consultant of Vascular Medicine at Mayo Clinic addressed critical procedures. They consisted of methods of treating post-CABG pseudo-aneurysm in the femoral artery, vascular assessment with a Doppler, ultrasound-guided vascular access, and dialysis treatment vascular mapping.
The two day programme shows the interest of the Tree Top Hospital to keep on developing professionally and enhance clinical practice in the Maldives. The hospital has been continuing to promote lifelong learning to advance patient care in the region by working with Villa College and by collaborating with specialists at Mayo Clinic.
