President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that one island from each atoll will be developed into a picnic island for residents. The announcement was made during his visit to AA. Mathiveri, where he met with the local community.
The President noted that many islanders have requested picnic spaces, highlighting how the lack of such facilities creates difficulties for families. He added that dedicated picnic islands would not only serve residents but also enhance the experience of tourists staying at guesthouses.
Research is currently being carried out to identify suitable islands, with the President assuring that practical work will begin soon.
“We will take one island from each atoll in the Maldives and develop it as a picnic island for residents and guests staying at guesthouses,” he said.
The initiative, according to President Muizzu, is part of a broader effort to improve community life while supporting the tourism sector. He reiterated the government’s commitment to fulfilling the plan, ensuring that every atoll has a space where families and visitors can enjoy leisure and recreation.
