1,000 New Homes and Basic Services Coming to Eydhafushi

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that next year’s State budget will include a special project to deliver utility services to reclaimed housing land on multiple islands that currently remain unused.

During his visit to Baa Atoll, the President spoke at Eydhafushi, where he highlighted that these lands lack basic development, including electricity, water, sewerage systems, and roads. He noted that this situation is not limited to Eydhafushi and is seen on several other islands as well.

According to the announcement, the new project will focus on bringing essential utilities and infrastructure to these areas. Islands where population growth and development can be balanced will be given priority, followed by those with larger populations.

Eydhafushi is among the top priorities for this project. The President stated that work on the island may begin within this year, with water, electricity, sewerage, and road development to be included in the 2026 State budget.

In addition, the President confirmed that the 1,000 housing unit project in Eydhafushi will also begin practical work this year. A contract has already been signed with a foreign company to carry out the development, which is expected to be completed within his term in office.

The housing project is described as important for both residents of Eydhafushi and those looking to move to the island for education or economic reasons. The President reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling the development promises made to the community.
