President Muizzu Reaffirms Strong Ties with Singapore

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Maldives' commitment to expanding cooperation with Singapore, extending formal greetings on the occasion of Singapore's National Day.

In a message addressed to President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, the government, and the people of Singapore, President Muizzu highlighted the growing strength of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

"I am pleased that the enduring relationship between the Maldives and Singapore has grown in trust, understanding and reciprocal benefit in recent times," President Muizzu stated. "The Maldives remains committed to continuing to explore new avenues for cooperation."
He also conveyed well wishes to Singapore’s leadership and citizens, noting the country’s peace and prosperity as key parts of its progress. The message described the Maldives-Singapore partnership as increasingly robust and mutually beneficial, built on intensified engagement and shared goals.

The message followed President Muizzu’s state visit to Singapore from 29 June to 2 July, held at the invitation of President Shanmugaratnam. The visit included high-level meetings and the signing of agreements in capacity building, education, and environmental cooperation.
The Maldives-Singapore Business Forum, held during the visit, brought together more than 200 business leaders from both countries and served as a platform to present investment opportunities in the Maldives.

President Muizzu had earlier said he was confident the outcomes of the visit would “further consolidate bilateral relations and deliver meaningful benefits to both populations.”
Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef also shared a congratulatory message on X: "I extend my heartfelt greetings to the Government and the friendly people of Singapore as they celebrate their National Day. I wish for Singapore to continue thriving for generations to come, and for Singaporeans to find strength and inspiration to work towards further progress."
He added, "The Maldives cherishes its strong ties with Singapore, and may our commitment to elevate these ties never falter."

Singapore’s National Day marks its independence from Malaysia. Diplomatic ties with the Maldives were established on 20 February 1975.
